The Centre today (October 4) asked the Narendra Modi government to provide adequate security to arrested IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt, who had levelled allegations against the Gujarat Chief Minister in connection with 2002 post-Godhra riots, and his family following an appeal from his wife. Soon after receiving a letter from Bhatt's wife Shweta expressing apprehensions that he could be "physically ill-treated" and that there was "danger to his life" froma "vindictive administration", Home Secretary R K Singh convened a high-level meeting to take stock of her complaint. A senior Gujarat police officer has implicated Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the post-Godhra riots. 'Gujarat govt sheilding Godhra riot accused'

Chavan accuses Kerala CM of misquoting him on CVC issue

Under attack after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh blamed him, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today accused Kerala Chief Minister V S Achutanandan of misquoting him on the CVC issue. Asked about Achutanandan accusing him of "lying" regarding his reported remarks on appointment of P J Thomas as Kerala Chief Secretary, he said "my statment was misquoted and twisted by the Chief Minister of Kerala". "All I had said in my press conference in Pune was that Thomas was appointed by Government of Kerala," he said. Achutanandan had said that Chavan was trying to hide his fault by blaming the Kerala government.

Kerala HC directs AI to hike Mangalore crash compensation

The Kerala High Court on Wednesday (20 July) has directed Air India to pay compensation of Rs 75 lakh each to the victims of last year's Mangalore crash. This issue has been the bone of contention between Air India legal counsel and the Mangalore Air Crash Victims' Families Association, set up to fight the cause of victims of IX812 crash. The association claim Montreal convention mandates one lakh SDR and not `up to one lakh SDR'.
